Describe what the data shows

Academic Task 1 asks you to report visual information such as charts, tables, processes, or maps. Begin by identifying the subject and time period. Then give an overview of the main features and support it with selected details. Avoid inventing reasons for a change.

Build towards the full task

Use rose from X to Y, fell by X, and remained unchanged carefully. From and to name the start and end; by names the difference. This first drill asks for sixty words. A full Academic Task 1 requires at least 150 words, with about twenty minutes recommended.

Avoid this common mistake

Listing every number without an overview leaves the main message unclear. First state what increased, decreased, or stood out; then select figures that support that picture.
